What's It About?

I don't know if there are enough adjectives to describe how special Wingspan is.  It's one of the most unique and beautiful board games we've ever come across, but don't let that distract you from the fact that it's also filled with fun and strategy. Seriously though on the beautiful aspect, the artwork is so incredible that buying prints of the birds from the game has become a thing.

In the game, players take on the role of bird enthusiasts seeking to discover and attract the best birds to their network of wildlife preserves. Each bird extends a chain of powerful combinations in one of their habitats (actions). These habitats focus on several key aspects of growth:

  • Gain food tokens via custom dice in a birdfeeder dice tower

  • Lay eggs using egg miniatures in a variety of colors

  • Draw from hundreds of unique bird cards and play them

The winner is the player with the most points after 4 rounds.

I know it sounds complicated but watch the how to play video, play a round just to get the hang of it and you will be good to go. As a strategy game though, the more you play the better you will get.

Designed For?

Wingspan is designed for 1-5 Players. Games can be expected to last between 45-75 minutes. The game is recommended for anyone over 10 years old but if a 10 year old has mastered this game, consider them a brainiac. The perfect age to really start getting good at this game is probably closer to 12.

How To Play Wingspan?

What’s It Good For?

  • Some strategy games are easy to figure out as they have very few different strategies you can follow to win a game, but Wingspan offers players varied different strategies to come out on top.

  • A bird enthusiast is not something I would describe myself as and for the most part if I saw a bird flying by I would not be able to tell you which type it was, but after playing Wingspan you will learn to appreciate and care more about all different kinds of birds.  It's a really great game that makes players connect to nature while playing a board game.

  • The art, the art, the art.  Seriously the illustrations and art is incredible and I can't rave enough about it.

Why Wingspan Is Worth It?

It's one of the most beautiful games to play, it's fun and will force you to plot strategies to win.  This is not a game for a casual game night party but if you have a group of friends that you enjoy playing strategy games with then this is a must have and for a change it doesn't involve castles or the typical plot you often find in board games.
